Matthew recently performed in the smash hit production at Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach (FL) receiving wonderful reviews for his portrayal of Buddy. He trained at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Matthew is an Equity actor, trained at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, living and working in New York City. He reprised his role as Buddy in 2011 at Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida, having previously played the lead at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's hit production of Buddy on Hilton Head Island.

"The success of this kind of musical concert hinges on the performance of the actor/musician in the lead role. And the happiest news is that the classically trained Matthew Gray as Buddy Holly is completely appealing. His total package is stop-you-in-your-tracks amazing. Musically, his singing and playing are spot-on, and if that were not enough, he absolutely looks like the iconic Buddy Holly. Happily, Gray's focus, as an actor and as a musician is to portray the Holly character, not to do a Buddy Holly impersonation. Gray's charismatic delivery is energetic, honest and strong. He has Holly's music right down to the gnat's eyelash."
